The weekend...

Another great weekend! Even though I'm finished working now, I still enjoy the weekends just as much as always! Probably because there is lots going on & Jamin is off too!

This weekend we got to see both of my siblings! On Saturday Peter & Janine picked us up and we went for a drive out to Westwood Hills to look at the property that Janine's sister is building on. I really like that subdivision. Here are a couple of pics of the boys checking on the property..they look like twins with their matching coats!

Saturday night we went to Jesus to the Nations at Mount St. Vincent University. They had an excellent speaker and The Contact played afterwards. It was also great to see lots of friends we hadn't seen in a while.Mary & Eric stayed with us on the weekend. They came up for Jesus to the Nations. We hadn't seen them since their wedding in December, and it was great to have them. Oh, on Sunday we were the greeters @ church. The sermon was on "Why do bad things happen to good people?" A good question. Pastor Somers did a good job of explaining things, although some things just cannot be explained...we need to have faith...

Well, that wraps up the weekend pretty much. We're still just waiting around for Baby Barrett. My prediction date was yesterday, so looks like I'm not doing so well...oh well. Maybe I'll still be right about the other parts of the prediction!

Pregnancy pic

Jamin & I got our pictures taken a couple of weeks back. We don't have it on disk & I don't have access to a scanner, so I took a picture of the picture. Anyway, it looks slightly better in person, but you get the idea.

Baby stuff/Bargain Hunter

I love a good deal. Today we bought a change table & rocking chair from the bargain hunter. The change table cost a whopping $15 and the rocking chair $35. Not bad, huh? A couple of weekends ago we were also able to score a nice playpen that was hardly used!

We set up the
diaper genie
today along
with the change
table...now
we're ready
for dirty
diapers! :)

Family Visit

Yesterday, Jamin's grandmother, Aunt, Cousin & her baby all stopped over for a visit. It got me to thinking. Our baby is very blessed because he or she will have 4 grandparents & also 4 great-grandparents! That's pretty amazing! All of Jamin's grandparents are still living, whereas none of mine are. I know when I was growing up I had 3 grandparents and 2 great-grandparents.

I think that grandparents & great-grandparents can have a very important part of helping to raise a child. I have many wonderful memories of my grandparents & great-grandparents. How about you? How many grandparents did you have? How about great-grandparents?

Oh, and something else that is neat..this is the first grandchild for all grandparents & the first great-grandchild for 2 of the great-grandparents! Wow!!

Our friends are the BEST!

Last night our friends threw us a baby shower @ Margaret's place. (Your place is looking great!!!) Margaret & Jill arranged the whole thing and had lots of help from everyone with food & one of the most fun shower games EVER (thanks, Kelley!!).

Baby Barrett is spoiled already! We got so many nice gifts last night from everyone. Thank you for the gifts and for coming to the shower. Your friendship means so much to Jamin & I. We're so thankful that our baby has such positive role models to look up to and learn from.

A few highlights from the shower:
-yummy food
-Kelley's game: It was Jeopardy style. She had different categories (ie. our blog, about us as babies, name that song, name that baby, etc.) It was boys against girls and I will admit, the boys did win. I think it was pretty much all of their first baby shower and they just wanted to win so badly! So congrats to the boys!
-the music (all songs with baby)
-the beautiful gifts!
-seeing all of our friends!!
-etc.etc.etc.

Here are some picts from last night:
This is me holding a picture of myselfe as a little girl. This was part of the game Kelley had arranged! Can you tell it's me?Here are people hanging out...Shondal, Deb, Lauren, Tara, Laura, Christa & Josh (thanks for setting up all the tech equipment for the game, Josh!)Tara, Deb, Bryan, Margaret, Lauren, & Christa

I love my teens...

Last night the teens from my church threw me a baby shower! It was so much fun! :) Of course, this shower was also supposed to be a surprised, but alas, I figured it out. I have to stop doing that! I'm just too nosey for my own good!

Here's a picture of us (a few people had left already...whoops..should have take the picture earlier)

Here's a picture of the beautiful baby gifts we received! Wow....so cute :) Thank you, girls for the gifts and for throwing such a fun shower! I know you put a lot of work into it and I really appreciate it. I also appreciate each of you! You're an awesome group of young women and I'm so blessed to be able to know you all!!!

We played the "toilet paper game". You had to guess how much toilet paper it would take to go around my belly. Rachel won this one and actually she had taken off the least amount! I guess I look bigger than I really am! :)

We also play this game where you had to try to pick out the safety pins from the rice (with your eyes closed). You'd think it would be easy, but they have surprisingly the same texture! I know Amanda Jean won this one and I think Krista tied her. Way to go girls!

In this game you had to drink the pop fastest from the sippy cup. I actually can't remember who won this, but it sure was funny watching!!

Thanks again, ladies! The night was so much fun and you guys really know how to put on a good baby shower! Do you guys think this will convince Jill to have one or what!?!? :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!!Do you have any special plans for today/tonight? Jamin & I plan on having a quiet evening in. Ever since we started dating, we have always had supper in. Jamin is always the one who makes it (even though I tried to take over making it this year, he insisted!). I plan on making a nice dessert today to contribute to the meal. We prefer staying @ home to the craziness of the restaurants on Valentine's Day.

What do you think of Valentine's Day? Do you love it/hate it? Or perhaps feel indifferent. If you have a significant other in your life, what do you expect? Another question, is Valentine's Day really just for the ladies? Or perhaps Valentine's Day is just for the stores to make money?!
Either way, I enjoy Valentine's Day and always have...whether I was single or with someone. To me, it's nice to have a day that reminds you to pay a little bit of extra special attention to those in your life who you love. And to answer one of my own questions from above, I don't expect much. I told Jamin I'd like a mushy note (I don' t even want a card). I got flowers last week, so I don't need any of those either. Spending time together is what I really enjoy. (I can't help it, I'm practical!)

Happy Valentine's Day!! Have a piece of chocolate and enjoy your day!

Tomorrow's Monday & I'm not going to work!

Well, I've started my maternity leave. Thursday was my last day of work. Of course, I have mixed feelings. I'll miss my job and especially the people that I work with, but on the other hand, it's going to be awfully nice not to have to get out of bed so early!! I plan on spending the next few weeks doing some reading, getting things ready, and just relaxing. After this baby comes, I have the feeling I won't have as much time for these activities!! :)

Enjoy your Monday, everyone!

Thursday night bible study

Last night we had our regular Thursday night bible study. Jamin & I love the people in our group and always feel so encouraged by them. It's so nice to have a group of friend who share similar beliefs and who are really there for you. That kind of friendship can be hard to come by .

Here's a pic of the boys. Andrew, Jamin, Tom & Stephen

Wow...I love showers!

Today @ work there was a "surprise" shower for me (& Jamin). Being the nosey person I am, I "accidently" found out about it. It was sooo nice. Lots of good food and tons of awesome gifts. I work with great people...I will miss them while I'm off. Here's me acting surprised...who am I kidding...everyone knew I knew :)
Check out this spread of food & gifts (and there were more on the floor!)
Here's a shot of the cake..cute booties on the corners!
We were overwhelmed by the generous gifts we were given..thank you everyone! We filled this whole dresser!
Oh, and this is not from the shower, but check out the beautiful roses Jamin gave me...24 of them! Aren't they beautiful!!?!

Friends & family

We had a great weekend! Last night (Saturday) we took in the Mooseheads' game with Peter & Janine. Oh, first we enjoyed a yummy pizza at our place which we made using our new pizza dish from Pampered Chef. It was our first time making crust & sauce from scratch and it was yummy! (Thanks, Kelly for the recipes!!) Janine & Peter provided a delicious dessert as well!

Question, when you go downtown, do you use parking garages? We did last night, but I think it was the first time ever! There is a certain convenience to it, that's for sure, but then there's the financial aspect...hmmm....Here's Janine & I with our new friend..
This is the Timbits during intermission..they are soo cute! And here are Jamin & Peter enjoying the game! Thanks for hooking us up with the tickets, Pete!

Before & After

Here are a couple of pics taken before & after the rain...what a strange winter we're having...

Weight gain update...

For my "long time" readers, you may remember my post of November 23rd, 2005 regarding my weight gain. Well, after receiving an email from a friend asking how it was going, I thought there might be others who are lying asleep at night just wondering, "how much weight has Sarah gained?". So, here's the update....

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment (and they always weigh you). Anyway, I have now put on 42 pounds!! Luckily I only have a few weeks left until this baby comes! Now, the craziest part of all of this is that I'm currently only 4 pounds less than Jamin!! I have been trying to encourage him lately to have second helpings at supper and to eat more dessert!! :)

I asked my Dr what the highest weight gain she has seen before and she said 100 pounds! Wow....that makes me feel much better :)

Ah, the fun of it all. I'm thankful that I'm feeling great and everything is going well! We're getting excited to meet baby Barrett!
