Gooooooooooo Slingers!

This summer Jamin played ultimate frisbee with the Slingers. This was their 3rd year in the league. Although the season was pretty rainy (it seemed most Sunday afternoon it was raining and a lot of games were cancelled), the Slingers had a lot of fun and they won 1st place in their league!!!

Yesterday Captain Tom & Amanda had a bbq for the team to celebrate. Lots of good food and we played some Apples to Apples. The last pic is Suzie (Susie?) trying to eat Naomi's cereal that is on her face..yum!I don't have any pics of the team from this year, but I looked back and I do have some from 2004. Several of the players are still involved with some news ones too of course! (I don't know why Nick is the only one with his shirt off...)

Saturday night @ the Millers

Last night we had the honor of having dinner with Colin & Tara and Kamal & Sarah (I hope I spelled your names right!). We hadn't met Kamal & Sarah before, but had heard about them, so it was nice to actually meet them.
Tara & Colin (check out her cute belly!)

Us!

I was very impressed by the meal that COLIN made! Yes, Colin made potatoes (lightly sprinkled with cheese), corn, delicious steak (however you liked it!), buns (I don't think he actually made these), salad, and for dessert strawberry shortcake...yum! I didn't know Colin had these mad cooking skills! Impressive, Colin :)

We enjoyed great conversation & food and Naomi enjoyed all of Tara's toys. Tara (& Colin) are expecting a baby on Feb.1 (Jamin's bday!), so Tara has been collecting goodies for a while now. I should have taken a picture of her color coordinated bins...blue for boy stuff, pink for girl stuff, and yellow for either :) Too cute! I'm so excited to meet their baby!!

Thanks for a great evening, guys!

S.O.S.

In this case, that actually stands for "Singles on Silva"! Yes, we went on a singles' cruise last night!!! We are blocking part of the sign in the picture above, but that's what it says. Here's the story. As you know, Tuesday was Jillian's birthday. Our Thursday night bible study wanted to celebrate and since Stephen is the captain of the Silva, he got us on for free! Wahoo!!! Since Thursday night is when we meet, we decided to go on the boat on a Thursday night. (Last night was also Ian's last night with us...he's heading back to school in Ireland. We'll miss you!) The only thing was that last night's cruise was a singles' cruise! heheheh...oh well, we decided to go anyway, and just stick together.

First we met @ the Stow's place where I thought we were having dinner...whoops...we weren't. So Jamin & I came starving and demanding food. Luckily they had a pizza they could pop in the oven. Thanks guys! Then we went on our singles' cruise. Afterwards we headed back to the Stows for some delicious cake and a fun game (I forget what it's called..help me out, Kelley!)

A VERY special thanks to Kelly & Jamie for looking after Naomi! It was so nice to be able to go out for the night. Here's the hottie I met on the boat
The ladies: Jill, Ashley, moi, Kelley
Andrew is either dancing or pointing at somethingSpeaking of dancing...things got a little crazy with a dance party on the Silva! Look what happens to Tom when Amanda is not around!! (she had to work).
(note: I actually staged this dance party for the pic...hehehe)Captain Stephen Stow. He wasn't actually working last night, but still let us have a chance to steer the boat!! I think we were actually just working since we didn't pay :)Tom checking things outLau is afraid we'll hit somethingKelley looking cute as she keeps us on courseJill getting into it! It's harder than you think!! And finally...here is Jill with her yummy bday cake that Stephen made! Happy Birthday, Jillian! Thanks for a great night you guys!!

Would you stop for a penny?

How about a dime?

I just got back from a beautiful walk with Naomi...what a great day! On my way back I spotted an old penny on the side of the road...I didn't stop. I thought about that as I walked by...I used to always stop & pick up pennies. Hmm....what has changed?

As I kept walking, I spotted a dime. I stopped and picked it up. There was no hesitation. I felt a weird sense of excitement over my find.

I also remembered this time when I was in grade 3 and I found a $2 bill. I handed it in to my teacher (I was a goody-goody...wouldn't have even thought about keeping it!). She said that if no one claimed it, I could keep it! By the end of the day, no one had stepped up, so I got to have it! I was sooooo excited! That could buy a lot of candy!

It also reminded me of the story in the Bible where the lady sweeps her whole house looking for that lost coin....neat how God seeks us like that...

So, would you have stopped for the penny? How about the dime?

aaaaaah-choo

I have a cold....it's not too bad, but a cold none the less. Apparently it's going around....did you catch it get?

(My) Worst 3 things about having a cold:

-my nose is dripping
-at night it's difficult to breath through my nose, thus making it harder to fall asleep
-my nose is starting to get red from blowing it

Naomi has a bit of a cold too (or is she teething...I can't tell!??) Anyway, she doesn't seem to mind, so that's good. Hopefully Jamin won't get it.

Enjoy your Thursday!

Happy Birthday, Jillian!

Today is my dear friend, Jillian's 25 birthday! Over the past few years, Jillian & I have become very good friends. Jamin & I love hanging out with Stephen & Jillian and are so grateful for their friendship.

I had a whole bunch of pictures I wanted to put up of Jillian from over the years, but Blogger hasn't been cooperating today. These are the only two I managed to download...

Akeelah and the Bee

I'm not really a "movie person". I don't watch a lot of movies and generally I don't enjoy movies. Most of the time I feel like I wasted 2 hours of my life. A lot of movies these days make me feel yucky after watching them. That's just me. I know a lot of people love movies and can even watch the same one over & over. I pick TV over movies 9 times out of 10. Anyway...the point of this rant is to tell you that I watched a movie I really liked! You guessed it...Akeelah and the Bee!

I liked this movie because it was "clean", made me feel good, and it flew by! That's the mark of a movie I like...it goes by quickly because I'm enjoying it so much.

Have you seen it? Did you like it? It's my pick of the month :)

All the grandparents in one day!

Jamin's parents and brother came for a visit for the past two days since Bob (aka Grampie) had a course here. We hadn't seen Jonny in a few months, so it was a special treat to have him here. We enjoyed fooseball and a good game of Rook last night. (was that ace played already?)Don't worry..no Pepsi was actually consumed...
Jamin & Jonny also installed our new hot water heater....here's Jonny & Naomi in the box..My parents, along with Mary & Eric, dropped by today. Mary & Eric are heading to England for 6 weeks so Mom & Dad brought them up to catch their flight. Have a fabulous trip!!!It's always so nice to see family! Thanks for coming everyone :)

Time goes by...

I was looking through a bunch of my pictures from the past few years. I started thinking...what was I doing last September? How about the one before that? And before that?

Since I have digital pics starting in 2003, I went back for a peek..here's what I found:

September 3, 2003: The end of our honeymoon...we were in Anchorage at a cute restaurant.September 25, 2004: Me, Amy (cousin), & Mary at David & Denise's wedding (cousin)September 10, 2005: I was 3 months pregnant and thought I should get a pick of my teeny belly. Not much to see really, but at the time I thought there was!And today....it's Naomi's 6 month birthday. Time really does go by quickly....

Regular clothes, tall girl, & template

I wasn't sure if this day would come. I fit into most of my old clothes! After having Naomi, NONE of my regular clothes fit, so I put them away in a box in the basement so I wouldn't have to look at them and remember that they didn't fit me. On Sunday, Jamin & I were on greeting rotation at church, so I didn't want to wear jeans or my other casual pants. I do have some skirts that fit, but alas, my legs weren't shaved so that was out. What to wear!?!? I thought I'd give my old dress pants a try so I got Jamin to bring that box upstairs. To my surprise & delight a couple of pairs fit!! I kept going and it seems that most of my old pants fit! Wahoo!!!! After going a few months with a minimal wardrobe, I realized a couple of things:
1) I don't need as many clothes as I have.
2) Some of my old clothes are ugly/outdated. When you pull something out for the first time in a long time, you see it with fresh eyes. My eyes were telling me that some of my clothes have got to go!

I had Naomi's 6 month appointment today and it went well. She had her needles and didn't cry at all! She now weighs 17 pounds 3 ounces and is in the 75th percentile for weight now. It seems she's starting to level off. I forgot to ask what her length(height) was, but I do know that she's in the 95th percentile. The Dr. said that it's likely she'll be tall.Lastly, you made have noticed that our template is different. We had several complaints that our links weren't showing up, so we tried a new template. That didn't fix things. I noticed that this problem happened since we got back from CB. I think it was one of my posts were too big or something. Anyway, if you want to see my links they are at the very bottom of the screen. If you want to move them up, click on September and that gets rid of the big post and they fit where they should. Hope that made sense.

Naomi updates...

It's been a little bit since I've done my rundown of Naomi updates. I actually do this partly for myself so that I can look back and see when she did what. For reference purposes, Naomi is almost 6 months old. I have her six month appointment tomorrow (another needle!), so I'll have some updates on weight, etc.

-Naomi can sit up on her own. She's been doing this for about 2 weeks. She still falls over now & then, but is really getting the hang of it.
-She can spin herself all the way around the floor while she's on her belly. No crawling yet though..no rush!
-Naomi loves waking up in the night. Usually I'm up 1-2 times. She did sleep through the night for about 3 weeks when she was 3 months old..what happened!??! :) I'm actually pretty used to it by now!
-She has 3 naps a day...morning, early afternoon, later afternoon. Napping is not her favorite thing to do...she fusses sometimes when put down. Plus she doesn't usually take a soother.
-She now eats cereal (baby cereal) twice a day and this week we've started carrots. I don't think she's really liking them, but often babies need to develop a taste for foods. (Don't mind my hair..just got out of the shower)

I think those are the highlights of her life right now :) It's so fun watching her learn and grow. Having a baby constantly reminds me of how much God loves us. I love her so much and to know that God loves me that much plus more is amazing!

Long weekend....

We had both forgotten it was a long weekend. I don't think we realized until Thursday...it was almost even more exciting because we weren't expecting it. Jamin's big project was to finish the shed and he worked on it most of yesterday. My parents also dropped by on their way home from the Valley.

Here is my handsome hubby with his handsome shed.
Naomi hung out with him for a bit in her exersaucer!Naomi & I watching Jamin working on the shed.Naomi & Grampie & NanaThis is a pic from Thursday night. It was the first week in a while that everyone could make it to our small group. Jamin & I are so thankful for this group of friends.
Tomorrow we'll be feeding Naomi carrots for the first time..stay tuned!!
