Happy Leap Day

Well, my first week "on my own" (Jamin did take two mornings off) went well. I even took the two children out twice this week: once to church and today to the library. Both outings went well, but I do find it's a bit more work to get out the door with two!

Micah is doing great! At his two week appointment this week he was up to 9 pounds. He's feeding really well. He still eats anywhere from every 2 to 3.5 hours. He sleeps a lot still and is pretty pleasant most of the time when he's awake.

Naomi is a great helper! She loves helping to change Micah and give him baths. She also likes doing "belly time" with Micah. I really need to take a picture of that. She is like a little mother. When he cries she says, "It's okay, Micah. Don't cry, Micah". So cute!In other news, we have a niece! Shira had her baby girl, Emma Grace on Monday. Congrats! Can't wait to meet her and introduce her to her cousins!

Busy times!

Well, Micah is 11 days old and already it feels like we've had him forever. He's fitting right into our family! Naomi continues to love him and is adjusting really well. So far, Micah is a very easy baby. Hopefully that will continue! He sleeps a lot and when he is awake he is very pleasant. At his one week appointment, he was back up to his birth weight which is great. Tomorrow we see the Dr. for another check up.

We were so blessed to have my parents here to help after Micah was born (before also). Bob & Elsie also made the trek over (in the snow!) on the day he was born. Peter & Mary have also come up to meet him. We have had lots of friends stop over and meet him too! It's a blessing to be able to share Micah with our families and friends.
I thought this last picture was so cute. Naomi often falls asleep while reading her books. I looked in and she was still holding her book while she slept!

Peter came up to Halifax to meet his nephew, Micah and also to collect his prize! Congrats again to Uncle Peter!

Congratulations Pete, early on Sarah was hoping that you wouldn't win because of the large baby and late due date, she is pretty happy now though.

Kristi gets an honorable mention because her guess was probably the closest (even though it wasn't the highest scoring guess, who made up the point system anyway?), she was also the second closest the the correct time, only off by just over 3 hours (actual birth time of February 13, 5:33 AM).

Here is a pic of our little Micah. We're home from the hospital now and doing great. Naomi loves Micah and keeps kissing him and giving him toys!

Welcome to the world Micah

We have a baby boy! Micah Jamin Barrett was born @ 5:33AM Wednesday, Feb 13. He was 8lb10oz and 22 inches. Both Micah and Sarah are doing well. I am a very proud husband and father. We will post some pictures when we get home.

Latest Dr. appointment

Just got back from the Dr's and everything was good. She said the baby could come anytime now! I actually went down a couple of pounds this week. My blood pressure was good and the baby's heart rate was 156 as usual.

The weekend so far

So I'm still pregnant and still feeling great. Official due date is tomorrow! Here's what I looked like as of yesterday. I can't believe how big my belly looks!

Last night Jamin & I went to Stephanie's house for a small group get together. We had a great time! We're trying to take advantage of this last bit before we're busy with a newborn and toddler!

Today, Jason & Kristi dropped by. Great to see you guys!! They are expecting their baby April 13th, so our babes will be close in age!

39 weeks and counting...

Had another appointment this morning. Blood pressure was around 90/60 or something close to that. Baby's heartrate was 156 (as usual). Also, I put on SIX pounds this last week! I guess I must be putting on some fluid now. Anyway, the doctor doesn't think the baby is coming for at least a few more days, but you never know! I'll keep you posted!

Friends

We had a great weekend! We're trying to enjoy this time of feeling rather rested before we welcome our baby soon! On Friday night our friend Stephanie babysat for Naomi (thank you sooo much!) and on Saturday Peter & Janine looked after Naomi while we went out again! Here's a shot of some of our small group at Cora's. Yum!

I have a Dr's appointment tomorrow, so we'll see how things are going. Have a good week!

Happy 29th to my wonderful hubby, Jamin! We love you!!! Enjoy this last year of being in your 20's!!

38.5 weeks and counting....

Just a couple of quick updates on the pregnancy. Had another appointment yesterday. I go every week now. All is well with baby & I. The baby's heart rate continues to be around 160 beats/minute. I'm feeling good and am up about 39 pounds in total. Last time I caught Jamin in weight, but so far I haven't this time! We'll see what happens :)

I'll have to take a belly pic and post it soon.

Expiry Dates

Are you particular with expiry dates on your food? Sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not. It kind of depends on what the food is. For example, I'm fine with bread a couple of days old as long as there isn't any mold. I'm not really cool with milk that is past date. It tastes funny to me or maybe it's just in my head because I know that it has expired according to the best before date. I thought of this because the other night I was going to put dressing on my salad and noticed that it had expired (not by a long time) and then I didn't want it. It was probably totally fine, but I just lost interest after knowing it was past date. Jamin thinks this is kind of ridiculous and he doesn't seem to care about these expiry dates.

Pregnancy update: 36 weeks

Only 4 more weeks to go!! Hard to believe we'll have a little baby soon! I had a Dr's appointment today and everything looks good. The baby is still head down which is good. My blood pressure was 92/62 (I always have low blood pressure), and the baby's heart rate was 156. I'm up 38 pounds which is less than I was this time, last time. I'm still feeling good; a bit tired now & then, but that comes with the territory! I know I'll be more tired once this baby comes, so I'm not going to complain.

Don't forget to get your vote in! I'm going to put one in too, but I won't take the prize if I happen to win. I'm still trying to decide for sure if I think we're having a boy or girl....

And the prize will be...

$10 of Tim Horton's money!! Last time it was $5, so taking into account inflation, etc. I've upped it to $10. May the best player win!

Predictions Time!!!

If you're a long time Barrett blog reader, you may remember when we took predictions for Naomi's due date, etc. I'm holding the same contest again for Baby Barrett #2! There are about 4.5 weeks until our expected due date, February 10th. Here are the items to predict:

1) gender: girl or boy?
2) birth date/time: that's basic...what day will the baby be born and at what time? be sure to specify am or pm
3) weight & height: how much will this little one weigh and how long will s/he be?

So, place your bets and when it's all said & done we'll announce the winner. (Let's see if Giselle wins again!!)

You must place your guess by January 25th. If you are reading this through Facebook, please go to www.jaminandsarah.com and place your official bet there. Happy guessing!!!

Here is the scoring system that will be used again:

1. Boy/Girl - 3 points for correct
2. Date - 3 points for correct, 2 points for 1 day off, 1 point for 2 days off
3. Weight - 3 points for correct, 2 points for within 3 oz, 1 point for within 6 oz
4. Time - 3 points for within 1/2 hr, 2 points for within 1 hr, 1 point for within 3 hr
5. Length - 3 points for correct, 2 points for within 1/2 in, 1 point for within 1 in

In case of a tie, whoever is correct for #1 will win, if tie persists proceed to #2 and so on until the tie is broken. If we reach #5 and for some freakish reason there is still a tie, we will award both precipitants as winners!
